Are marimo moss balls alive?

Yes! Marimo moss balls are living organisms — a rare form of algae (Aegagropila linnaei), not true moss. In sunlight they photosynthesize and release tiny oxygen bubbles.

How do I care for my marimo moss ball?

Keep it in cool, clean water with indirect light. Change the water every 1–2 weeks, and gently roll the ball in your palms to help it keep its round shape.

How long do marimo moss balls live?

With proper care, marimo can live for decades — some over 100 years — making them one of the longest-lived aquatic pets.

How fast do marimo moss balls grow?

Very slowly, about 5mm per year. Patience is part of their charm!
